Installation

Automatic install

1. As one of your site's Root users

  •   Upload the plugin archive (.zip) : Select it on your HD and press Upload.

2. If the installation completed successfully you are ready to go. Otherwise, check the geeklog error.log for errors.

Manual install

  1. Unpack the tarball in /path/to/geeklog/plugins/ (or unpack it on your PC and then upload the "maps" folder to that directory)
  2. Rename the "admin" folder to "maps" and move it to /path/to/geeklog/public_html/admin/plugins/
  3. Log into your site as the Admin user, select "Plugins" from the "Admins only" block, find the "maps" entry and click on "install"

and a autotag in the list of available HTML tags when you create a new story or comment.

Upgrade

To upgrade from an earlier version, please upload all the files from the archive to their respective location, replacing the older versions of the same files. **Do not** use the automatic way (see Automatic install above).

Once you've done that, log into your site as a member of the Root group (e.g. as user Admin). Go to the Admin's "Plugins" panel.

You can upgrade just by clicking the icon "Update" or click on the "edit" link for the maps plugin. You will be presented with an "Update" button. Click that button and you should get a message that the upgrade was successful. That's all.

Upgrade to 1.3

There are two significant changes to keys in the Google Maps JavaScript API v3 release. First, a key is no longer required during early development. Second, the API uses a new key system. This means that your v2 key will not work with your v3 application. Adding a v3 key before deploying your application to production will:

  • Allow you to view usage reports in the APIs console.
  • Purchase additional quota when required.
  • Give Google a way to contact you about your application.

The key is passed when loading the Google Maps JavaScript API v3. To generate a key:

  • Visit the APIs Console at https://code.google.com/apis/console and log in with your Google Account.
  • Click the Services link from the left-hand menu, and activate the Google Maps JavaScript API v3 service.
  • Once the service has been activated, your API key is available from the API Access page, in the Simple API Access section. Maps API applications use the Key for browser apps.

Maps plugin do not support Maps for Business customer. Maybe you could sponsor this feature.

Update your language file ($LANG_configselects['maps'])

 20 => array('Normal street map' => 'ROADMAP', 'Satellite images' => 'SATELLITE',
'Terrain map' => 'TERRAIN ', 'Transparent layer of major streets on satellite images' => 'HYBRID'),

Configuration

The maps plugin configuration is online. After install, visit {site_url}/admin/configuration.php

You will need a google map API to use this plugin.

Obtaining an API Key

All Maps API applications should load the Maps API using an API key. Using an API key enables you to monitor your application's Maps API usage, and ensures that Google can contact you about your application if necessary. If your application's Maps API usage by exceeds the Usage Limits, you must load the Maps API using an API key in order to purchase additional quota.

To create your API key, visit the APIs Console at [[https://code.google.com/apis/console]] and log in with your Google Account.

Click the Services link from the left-hand menu, then activate the Google Maps API v2 service.

Once the service has been activated, your API key is available from the API Access page, in the Simple API Access section. Maps API applications use the Key for browser apps.

By default a key can be used on any site. We strongly recommend that you restrict use of your key only to domains you administer, to prevent use on unauthorized sites. You can specify which domains are allowed to use your API key by clicking the Edit allowed referrers... link for your key.
